DINOFLAGELLATES

Dino-flagellates are unicellular plankton.

Their phylum is dinoflagellate.

The largest dinoflagellates is noctiluca. Its size is 2mm.

Over 20000 species of inoflagellates are known. They belong to the kingdom Protista.

The organisms of Protista are similar to organisms in animals, plants, and the fugus kingdom, butt in some cases they are different.

They move on their own unless they have chlorophyll or unicellular.

Mostly dinoflagellates live in oceans. we can say about 90 percent lives in the ocean.

All kinds of dinoflagellates make their own food which means they are autotrophs and they make the food by using photosynthesis method and some others.

Even some dinoflagellates live in snow. That means they can live in low temperature too.

The word dinoflagellates means whirling flagella.

CHARACTERISTICS

1.    They have two flagella

2.    When some object disturbs them they light the ocean.

3.    Some toxic flagella are also present, and many of them have algal blooms, this causes red tides.

4.    The reaction which is responsible for their glow is bio luminescence.

5.    Their toxins can be dangerous to humans and other animals

6.    Their color varies from golden to summer green

BODY PARTS

Flagella

Flagella are used for the movement.

MITOCHONDRIA

Mitochondria is used for breakdown of particles and use the energy they release.

RIBOSOMES

They make proteins.

CHLOROPLAST

Dinoflagellates have cholorplast for the purpose of making glucose by using oxygen and carbon.

REPRODUCTION

Their mode of reproduction is binary fishon and asexually.

First they expand and the parent cell divide into two cells, ten the NA is coupled.

Sexual reproduction is also reported in some dinoflagellates.

Examples includes

Glenodinium, peridinium, gymnodium, gonyanlax, ceratium.

ECONOMIC IMPORTANCE

They are food for any marine shell fishes.

They are the second major primary producers of marine water.

Hey have a large impact on food sources of oceans.

Some dinoflagellates fix round about 20 percent of carbon dioxide.

These have also a impact on the climate change processes.
