Golgi complex
Discovery of Golgi complex.
Golgi apparatus can be seen with both light and
electron microscope. These can be also called as Golgi complex.
The Italian physician and noble laureate Camillo Golgi
in 1898 discovered Golgi complex during an investigation of the nervous system.
Dalton and Felix discovered in 14.
Location of Golgi
complex
Golgi complex is present in all Eukaryotas and it is
absent prokaryotic.
It is absent in some cells like mammalian RBCs, sperm cells,
and bryophytes and pteridophytes and sieve of plants tube.
These can be small in size or can be large .they have different
positions in different kinds of cells. It lives between the nucleuses. Invertebrates
and plant cells have small Golgi complexes which are called dictosomes.
Structure of Golgi
complex
They can be different in size, form but they have
similar organizations.
In an electron microscope view shows the central stack
pile of parallel.
Cisternae many peripheral tubules and vesicles.
Cisternae
The number of cisternae in animal cells varies from
3-7 and10-20 in plant cells.
They can be flat but can rottenly curved. These have
two poles cis and the Trans face. They act as receiving and shipping
departments. The materials which are secretory reach through Golgi complex by
the smooth endoplasmic reticulum by way of transport vesicles which is connected
with Golgi cisternae on the cis face.
Tubules
Tubules which are small in size and round in shape
arise from the periphery of cisternae.
Vesicles
Vesicles of Golgi complex lies near the ends of
concave surface of Golgi complex. There are two types of these vesicles
1.
Smooth or secretory vesicles
2.
Coated vesicles
All the elements in Golgi complex are filled with a
material called Golgi matrix.
Functions of Golgi
complex
·
First is secretion
·
The second function of Golgi complex
is synthesis
·
The third and important function of Golgi
complex is sulfation.
·
The forth basic function of Golgi
complex is apoptosis.
·
The fifth function of Golgi complex
is phosphorylation.
·
The last function of Golgi complex
known to me is cell-specific function.
